Isadora Moon Helps Out
By Harriet Muncaster (Oxford University Press, 2024)
If you know me, you know I’m a HUGE Harriet Muncaster fan! I love her sparkly and fun gothic-take on fairy tale stories for children. Isadora Moon has been around for many years now and is now a global sensation with its very own TV series, however I remain purist and really just prefer to read the books. It baffles me how Harriet comes up with these new stories and each one is just as engaging, meaningful and exciting as the next. It’s a book series that’ll never let you down.
In this latest story, Isadora (half vampire, half fairy and who celebrates her uniqueness) plays nurse maid to a poorly fairy mummy - sick with the fairy flu. What can she do to help?
Dad (a vampire) hasn’t slept and he’s now got to look after Isadora and her baby sister Honeyblossom, AND look after Cordelia. Isadora makes up her mind to help, and when her efforts at making breakfast don’t go so well, she decides little bit of magic might help with the chores.
Following a more than bubbly bubble bath problem, a little mishap in the greenhouse leads to Honeyblossom growing into a giant baby!! Will mum wake up and discover all the mayhem or will Isadora manage to restore calm to the chaos she has caused in time??
This is such a giggly, uplifting story, filled with subliminal messaging about thinking of others, caring for our loved ones, and helping out… we can all relate to doing something with good intentions for someone and it all going a bit wrong!! This story also deals with the feelings journey young children can have when mum, or dad, is poorly with a nasty bug. Looking forward to Isadora’s next story: ‘Isadora Makes a Wish’ out October 2024.
