Kitty and the Stolen Storybook
By Paula Harrison, illustrated by Jenny Løvlie (Oxford University Press, 2024)
This is a long-running early reader series from a much-loved Children’s writer, and filled with absolutely gorgeous artwork by a much-loved Children’s illustrator! The Kitty series has a dream team of creators behind it!! These are adorable stories, adventures of a little girl who possesses feline super powers, and by night she solves mysteries along with her favourite little furry sidekicks, the cutest of cats.
In her latest adventure (the 14th!!), Kitty has had a trip to the library with her best friend, Jamila. They’ve had a lovely storytime (like the fairy tale ninja stories reference there, Paula) and afterwards made some masks. Worried that a window wasn’t closed back at the library, Kitty puts on her superhero disguise and heads out over the rooftops (for she can safely leap and move as stealthily as a cat)… when she arrives she sees the library in disarray! AND there’s a book missing… STOLEN!
Libraries are for borrowing and sharing books… Kitty needs to follow the clues to find out which someone or ‘somecat’ is the moonlight thief, and more importantly why. Kitty’s kindness and caring nature help one very grumpy and lonely character feel a whole lot better, and to get help with learning to read.
This is a dream book for me - it’s all about a love of libraries, love of books and the reading community, helping others and making sure books are accessible. Gorgeous writing, stunning artwork, love it!! A perfect detective series. ‘Super Facts About Cats’ included at the end of the book.
Looking forward to Kitty’s next mystery solving adventure: ‘Kitty and the Missing Pumpkins’ out September 2024.
