A wonderful new school-based chapter book series for early readers with diverse representation and affirming, empowering storylines!

What a wonderful new school-based chapter book series for early readers! ‘Meet Amber Class’ by Enomwoyi Damali - a Trinidad to UK primary teacher and Educational Psychologist - features three delightful short stories with large text and joyful and engaging black-and-white artwork by Ruthine Burton - a Dominica and French Guyana to UK children’s book illustrator. Published by Otter-Barry Books, ‘Meet Amber Class’ is recommended for ages 5+.

I loved meeting teacher Mrs Adisa and her class - a group of children with diverse representation that will delight teachers, parents and carers to know. This debut book features three uplifting stories: ‘Believe in Yourself’, ‘Sort it Out’, and ‘Feeling Good’ - and yes, readers, this book really does make you feel good! It made me feel good on my very first read-through, then I used the book in a school book club for Years 1 - 4, and then a storytime for a visiting primary school at my Happy Reading bookshop… lots of spreading joy across our local community because of ‘Meet Amber Class’.

Mrs Adisa has a gift for truly seeing her students - meeting them where they are, coaching them to confidence, teaching reasoning skills, and helping them navigate emotions and friendships with empathy and reflection. Goals! There are super activities at the end of each story too.

A must-have for school libraries, book corners, PSHE lessons, and wellbeing rooms. Whether your child is yet to find their voice, or whether they are already loud and proud, there are relational characters for all. By the final page of the book, the children come to the end of the school week feeling inspired, empowered and happy to come back to school on Monday. Job well done, Mrs Adisa. I can’t wait for book 2!
