First-of-all I have to address the seriously incredible colour palette… and I NEED a dress and accessories to match! Also - I love a cat story - cats are adorable, playful, clever, full of character and wonderful to observe. I’m still in happy-Children’s-picture-book-land from Jack Kurland's ‘Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered’ which published in January over at Frances Lincoln Books. The hardback cover artwork pops out of the vibrant green with a title coloured in in neon pink, then open ‘Where is the Cat?’ to kitty cat hide-and-seek illustrations within the end papers. Awesome!
This is an absolutely delightful picture book, playful and interactive for a read aloud story. The cat in the story lives with Auntie, and he’s living his best life… that is until Auntie’s little niece Suzy comes round to play! Suzy must have some form for this cat to go to the extent of hiding in awkward and out-of-reach places until the little girl finally funs out of steam and takes a nap. Suzy just doesn’t understand why the kitty cat won’t play with her… surely a game of “Mummy and Baby” or dressing up is just the ticket? It’s so frustrating.
Perhaps Suzy’s cosy looking blanket at naptime might be just the cat-trap she’s been waiting for… Who will ultimately outsmart whom? I’ll let you find out for yourselves.
Good to see Eva back in the Children’s picture book game!

“An eye-popping palette of neon-pink, green and yellow matches the high energy of Suzy... a familiar yet funny game of hide and seek... with little readers able to join in too” ― Observer
