Just One More Story

Book Review: 'Just One More Story' by Perry Emerson and Sean Julian (Little Tiger Press) For ages 3+ Review by Nicci @ The Kids Books Curator

For ages 3+

A sweet and gentle story that promotes the benefits of learning to read and sharing the joy of books with others.

Hello Spring! Hello cute little bunnies! What a lovely idea to blend nurturing a love of reading, siblings or friends reading together, and being out in nature as we come to the end of Winter, yearning for longer days, meadows filled with pretty colourful wild flowers and the bob of little white tales as lots of newborn Spring bunnies explore the outdoors. ‘Just One More Story’ by Perry Emerson, illustrated by Sean Julian (Little Tiger Press) is delightful.

A little older, Pip LOVES to read, and has her little twitchy nose in a book. Bun, on the other hand, is much more interested in bouncing around and playing games in the grass… he things reading is BORING!

Just One More Story’ highlights the natural curiosity of young children who are on the cusp of their reading journey; how the influence of being in a proactive and positive reading environment - whether at home, the local library, bookshop, or at nursery - can provide the catalyst for them to want to pick up a book, to want to know what the words say for themselves, to look at the pictures to decipher what is happening.

Bun eventually decides to see what all the fuss is about and discovers that Pip’s book isn’t BORING at all! It’s about a female penguin who rides a motorbike, and she’s a super spy! They then choose new books to look at together, then they start to make their own stories up lying on the meadow grass in the sunshine with books all around them.

Bun learns that having your nose stuck in a book, no matter how cute, doesn’t mean that playtime is over for ever… actually, it means that there’s a fresh injection of imagination and adventure, new ideas for role play and pretend play to make playtime that much more fun and exciting!

This is a sweet and gentle story that promotes the benefits of learning to read and sharing the joy of books with others.

About the author

Perry Emerson is a writer and editor at Little Tiger Press, where he works mostly on picture books and sometimes on novelty books. When he's not making books, he spends his time playing music and discovering new restaurants. Perry lives in London with his partner and their much-too-fluffy cat.

About the illustrator

Sean Julian enjoyed art from an early age, focusing on potato printmaking and creating plasticine dinosaurs. Years later he studied at the Mansfield College of Art, before moving to Bristol to study illustration. Being rather big and hairy himself, he was always happiest illustrating big, hairy creatures such as bears and gorillas. This naturally led to a career in children's books. He now has over twenty years' experience illustrating and writing for children.
